Coding transcripts on a train through Java

There is a strange, quiet intimacy in coding qualitative data while moving through space. Today I read interview transcripts on a train through Java.

Strangers are describing what loneliness feels like in their lives — the silent gaps, the text messages left on read, the feeling of sitting in a crowded room where no one notices your departure. Outside, the green landscape rushes past. The contrast is striking.
